LET’S BUILD TOGETHER
Flying saucer
42 pieces 16 steps · One little step at a time.
A little before you begin
The lid lifts off as one piece; it does not hinge. Leave it off while the alien is aboard.
The Moon alien is a separate build with its own guide and inventory. Its antennae stand above the cockpit.
Move the craft by its lower body. The three feet are fixed.

A LITTLE PREPARATION
Gather your pieces
Match the shapes and quantities. The pictures show our colours. Colour names in the steps refer to the pictures; keep useful contrasts, such as a light belly against a dark body.

STEP 1 OF 16
Set out three blue square bricks: two at the back and one centred at the front. Leave four clear columns between the back pair and four rows before the front foot.

STEP 2 OF 16
Lay two white 4 × 8 plates side by side across the feet. The plates meet down the middle.

STEP 3 OF 16
Put two blue 2 × 4 bricks side by side in the middle of the floor, running from back to front. Leave two rows or columns clear around all four sides. This raised seat keeps the alien’s face above the cockpit rim.

STEP 4 OF 16
Attach a yellow semicircular plate beyond the back edge. Its straight edge faces forwards and its inner two rows overlap the floor.

STEP 5 OF 16
Add the matching yellow semicircle at the front, with its straight edge facing back. Again, overlap the floor by two rows.

STEP 6 OF 16
Add yellow semicircles at the left and right. Their straight edges face the middle; overlap each side of the floor by two columns.

STEP 7 OF 16
Join the rim layers with yellow 2 × 4 plates across the middle of the back and front rims. These fill the gaps between the side semicircles.

STEP 8 OF 16
Build the back wall across the yellow rim with four blue narrow double-height wall bricks. Leave one row behind the wall.

STEP 9 OF 16
Add two blue wall bricks down each side, leaving the six-column-wide centre open.

STEP 10 OF 16
Finish the front wall with four more blue wall bricks across the rim.

STEP 11 OF 16
Put three white slopes along the back wall, centred left to right. Their high edges face towards the middle of the cockpit.

STEP 12 OF 16
Put three white slopes along each side. Their high edges face inwards; one column projects outside each blue side wall.

STEP 13 OF 16
Finish the sloping cockpit with three white slopes at the front, high edges facing back towards the opening.

STEP 14 OF 16
Close the empty cockpit with three blue 2 × 8 plates across the opening, side by side. Their edges rest on the high edges of the slopes. This lid comes off when the alien rides aboard.

STEP 15 OF 16
Join the cover plates with a blue round plate in the middle.

STEP 16 OF 16
Finish with a yellow square brick in the centre as a low cockpit beacon.

THE LAST STEP OF THE GUIDE
Room for a little more imagination.
Lift off the lid and invite the Moon alien aboard for an open-cockpit journey. Land on a paper planet and ask what the visitor has found. Take the alien out, then replace the lid to park the empty craft.
