A LITTLE PREPARATION
Gather your pieces
Match the shapes and quantities. The pictures show our colours. Colour names in the steps refer to the pictures; keep useful contrasts, such as a light belly against a dark body.

STEP 1 OF 11
Lay a brown 4 × 4 plate flat. Put two brown 2 × 4 bricks side by side on it.

STEP 2 OF 11
Put a brown square in the middle of the rock. Add a brown 4 × 4 plate on top, lined up with the brown floor.

STEP 3 OF 11
Put two red 2 × 8 plates across the rock, end to end. Each overlaps the rock by two columns and projects six columns out to its side.

STEP 4 OF 11
Join the wings with a red 4 × 4 plate centred above the rock.

STEP 5 OF 11
Add a red 2 × 4 plate to the inner half of each wing. Their back rows project one row behind the wings.

STEP 6 OF 11
Put a red 2 × 6 brick down the middle, starting one row behind the rock and reaching one row in front.

STEP 7 OF 11
Put a red curved brick on the back of the body, rounded end pointing backwards.

STEP 8 OF 11
Put a yellow 2 × 4 plate on the front of the body. Its back two rows overlap and its front two rows project forwards.

STEP 9 OF 11
Add a yellow steep slope to the front half of the beak, high edge facing the head. Its pointed end projects one row beyond the plate.

STEP 10 OF 11
Put a black square over the back half of the beak. Finish with a red square on top.

STEP 11 OF 11
Put a red square just behind the head. Add a red steep slope on top, projecting one row backwards with its high edge towards the head.

THE LAST STEP OF THE GUIDE
Room for a little more imagination.
Stretch out your arms to copy the fixed wings. Spot three imaginary things from the rocky perch. Draw a coastline and tell a landing story.
