A LITTLE PREPARATION
Gather your pieces
Match the shapes and quantities. The pictures show our colours. Colour names in the steps refer to the pictures; keep useful contrasts, such as a light belly against a dark body.

STEP 1 OF 15
Set two green large base plates side by side to make a twelve-by-twelve-stud courtyard.

STEP 2 OF 15
Start the four corner towers. At each corner, place two cream long bricks side by side to make a four-by-four square.

STEP 3 OF 15
Add a yellow layer to each tower using two long bricks side by side. Line up the edges with the cream layer below.

STEP 4 OF 15
Add another cream layer to each tower using two long bricks side by side.

STEP 5 OF 15
Add another yellow layer to each tower using two long bricks side by side. All four towers should now be four layers high.

STEP 6 OF 15
Join the rear towers with a blue wall, then join each pair of towers along the sides. Leave the front middle open.

STEP 7 OF 15
Add another blue long brick to each connecting wall.

STEP 8 OF 15
Place the cream arch across the front entrance, between the two front towers. Its opening faces out of the courtyard.

STEP 9 OF 15
Cap each tower with a red square plate.

STEP 10 OF 15
Centre one yellow round tower brick on each tower roof.

STEP 11 OF 15
Add cream battlements to the rear half of each tower: one wall brick on each outside edge.

STEP 12 OF 15
Add cream battlements to the front half of each tower: one wall brick on each outside edge.

STEP 13 OF 15
Add a red roof slope to each round turret, with all four slopes pointing toward the front entrance.

STEP 14 OF 15
Lay the blue long plate down the centre of the courtyard. It starts two rows in from the back wall and stops before the gate.

STEP 15 OF 15
Add three yellow stepping stones along the courtyard plate, starting at its back end.

THE LAST STEP OF THE GUIDE
Room for a little more imagination.
Name the castle. Invent a friendly visitor and a reason for their journey. Tell a story that begins in the courtyard.
